Born in the Napa Valley, Silvanie spent her early years reading to the family chickens and having picnics in the woods behind their house. Her father, John Farmar Bowers was a renowned horticulturist who owned Skylark Wholesale Nursery, over the hill in Sonoma County. Expanding their vision, Silvanie's parents bought the farm next door to Skylark, turning the then turkey farm into a wholesale specialty cut flower farm, Sonoma Flower Company with a focus on garden roses and interesting perennials. The farm dating back to the 1880’s was one of the original wineries in Sonoma Valley, with stone ruins from the winery that had burned down so many decades before.
Submersed in a life of plants and field grown flowers, it was only natural for Silvanie to become a floral designer herself. Her family opened the winery ruins and surrounding barn and cottages on their farm that became a sought-after wedding venue, Annadel Winery & Gardens. Silvanie and her sister, Zoe designed all of the florals for weddings held on their farm and helped open a retail flower shop in Hotel Healdsburg with their mother, Lisbeth in 2002. Their work has been featured in numerous magazines and books. After the unexpected sale of their farm, Silvanie continues to work with flowers and photograph people in their homes, gardens and work spaces. She lives in Sebastopol, California with her husband and son.
Always up to meet new flower friends and collaborate.
